Almost all assignments in this class require you to take the role of website designer/consultant for a business client. You get to choose who your client is. It can be a real company or an imaginary company, and you are welcome to use one of the following case studies as your client if you wish.

The only rule is that the company you choose cannot have its own website yet, or their website must be so old and outdated that you know you can make serious improvements. If using a company that already exists in the real world, you must get approval from me first.

Below, you will find case studies for businesses you could use as your client as well as advice for how to invent your own client or use an existing business—along with the information you will need to submit to get those ideas approved.

<aside> 💡 You will ultimately build a six-page website for this client as part of a team of 2-4 students. If you know who you might want to work with, it would be smart to consult them NOW so that you can pick the same client from the get-go. If you don’t know who you want to work with, that is okay. You can explore client ideas on your own for now and then choose one group member’s client to go with once you all come together.

Invent Your Own Company or Nonprofit

If you have your own business idea, you could make a website for that company. To do so, you need to be able to write down the following pieces of information and submit it to me for approval first:

Design for an Existing Company

You can choose a real, existing company as your client, but it should be a business that does not currently have a website. Maybe they have a social media presence but no website (like many restaurants or craftspeople). Maybe you scour Etsy and find someone making things on Etsy who doesn’t have their own website yet.
