Overview

The goal of information design is to communication data or information to an audience, often to help them learn new things or increase their knowledge on a given subject. No matter what field you go into, as you gain expertise in various areas, you will find yourself teaching what you know to others. Translating complex concepts to other people is the perfect situation to focus on information design. When teaching, you need to organize and deliver information in a way your audience will be able to understand and remember.

In this assignment, you will teach the class using a slide show (or another visual). You will also create complementary supporting materials designed to help your audience better understand and retain the information you are offering.

If you teach on a date before spring break, you are not required to submit your second supporting material to me or the class until spring break. If you teach after spring break, your second supporting material must be submitted on or before the day you teach. The first supporting material (usually a slide show) must always be submitted on or before the day you teach.

I will look at the topics you write on the signup sheet and will contact you if your topic seems too broad or too narrow. I will ask you questions to help you focus your topic if needed.

Choosing a Topic to Teach

Some topics are suggested for you, but you do not have to use those. There are plenty of opportunities to choose a suggested topic or come up with one on your own.
